There are three main styles of applications for Flat Roof Systems including Built Up Flat Roofs, Single-ply flat Roofing, and Spray-on or Paint-on Roofs.

Built up roof membranes are commonly referred to as “tar and gravel” roofs. These systems are composed of alternating layers of bitumen and reinforcing fabrics to create a finished surface. Built up roof systems include aggregate (such as gravel, slag or mineral granules), hot asphalt mopped over the entire surface, glass-fiber or mineral surfaced cap sheets, aluminum coatings or elastomeric coatings.

Polymer-modified roof membranes are another option for flat roof or low-slope roof systems, often referred to as “rubber roofs”. They are composed of reinforcing fabrics that act as carriers for the hot polymer-modified bitumen, which is manufactured into a roll material.

Another option for your Flat or Low-Sloped roof is Single-ply membranes. Factory-manufactured sheet membranes, they generally come in two options categorized as either thermoplastic or thermoset. They can be installed fully adhered, mechanically attached or held down with ballast and usually do not receive surfacing.
